Canadian poet Leonard Cohen, who now resides on the island of Hydra in Greece, is shown in his native city of Montreal. The program explores Cohen's childhood and his subsequent development as one of Canada's leading new writers. The film takes viewers to the house Cohen was brought up in as well as to the places of Montreal he enjoys frequenting—his favorite bistro, a three dollar-a-day hotel, the public park, the exclusive section called Westmount, and a Greek grocery store. Cohen himself is shown at a recording session, at public readings of his poetry, displaying home movies of his childhood, and commenting on university life. He also reflects on his visit to Cuba, his girlfriend in Greece, his obsession with danger and his friends and their personalities.

Newly-sober, MARTY is attending AA meetings at the Road to Recovery Clubhouse. The clubhouse is run by CLEMENT, a "star" sponsor with a strong track record for keeping his sponsees sober. But Marty notices that, with disturbing regularity, the "weakest links" among Clement's sponsees keep flaming out spectacularly-- overdosing, committing suicide-- and Marty suspects that Clement is deliberately giving the most vulnerable a subtle kick and a shove over the edge. Clement is essentially a serial killer, but one that could never be arrested.

The documentary brings the reconstruction of the history of the São Paulo filmmaker through the personal journey of his daughter, Marina. Through interviews with friends, family, and people who worked with Person, she seeks to discover more than dates and biographical data.

When the gods appear in disguise the only person who shows them hospitality is the young girl Shen Te and for this she is awarded by them. After a while she finds her new life has also brought new problems.
